When you’re on top of the world – we all feel it.
When you’re not, we feel that too!
It’s not a bad thing, per se, but it is a thing.
What do you do about it?
BE AWARE!
Often times when we feel crappy or crabby we are all up in our own grills, we are worried about ourselves, our partnerships, our to-do lists, our lack of time… Notice what is missing from that list?
The people you are here to SERVE.
Leaders aren’t here to be comfortable all the time. You are here to lead even when you’re uncomfortable. Even when you have 72345 things to do. Even when you sat in your kids applesauce on the way to work and got cut off and your assistant misscheduled your meeting.
When you are on a roll you are taking everyone with you.
Make sure you like your roll! Or at least, make sure that the way that you are showing up is still inline with your values and the mission.
Signs you need a “roll check”
- People have stopped stopping by just to say hello.
- Maybe they aren’t making eye contact like they used to.
- You notice the people who typically offer feedback aren’t giving it as freely or often.
- You are worried about yourself more than you are worried about your team.
- People are having meetings after the meetings.
These can all be signs that folks are busy, sure, but they can also be little check engine lights telling you that communication has slowed and things may be getting off track.
As the leader, you set the course, right, so if you’re off – everyone is off.
If you’re on – watch out – because good things are happening!
Have a great week, and if you get in a funk, ask yourself this question “What is one thing my team is doing right, right now?” Then go and tell them in as specific a way as possible.
You’ve got this.
