I keep hearing the same question, again and again…
“How do you make decisions in your business FOR your business?”

At first glance, it seems simple – but I’ve noticed coaching so many of you – that it’s not! It wasn’t always easy for me either… Due to a slippery belief, most of us have to contend with at some point if we want to stop throwing money out the window.

It’s some version of: “When I get that program, then it will work.”

Feel that. Feel into the feeling that comes up for you when you think that. For me, it’s hope.

Hope sounds nice. In business, though, it creates distance between you and your dream. SPACE – more space for you to wade through in order to create what you want.

Remember President Obama’s campaign? HOPE was all over, he talked it up, ran a great campaign, gave us hope… but, guess what he wasn’t doing.

HE WAS NOT HOPING.

He was deciding (based on data and a plan), watching what was working and what wasn’t. Adjusting, in the moment, based on all of the above.

He was giving us hope, he was running on certainty. No one runs for President without deciding they are going to win first.

Did you hear that?

DECIDE YOU ARE GOING TO WIN FIRST.

Now, that’s how you do it!

For those of you who like steps, here they are:
1. Decide where you’re going – in general at least. Pick that end result to aim your business at.

2. What do you know you need, right now, to START getting you there? Most likely, you already have a lot of what you need. But, you might want to build a skill or bring on support.

PRO TIP: Needing to hire support and learn new skills, as you actually need them – not shiny object syndrome!

3. For the things you need to do/learn, think about your resources. Do you have more time or more money? In the beginning, you likely have more time and can YouTube or Google your way to so many things.  Once you’re serving many clients, you’re going to want to buy more time (get help!). When you’re further along than that, you’ll make these decisions with and for your team.

4. Decide the rate of speed you’ll be going. Yes – you decide.  Are you going to plod along or add gas to the fire? With this one, you’ll want to have a really solid plan in place because when you are amplifying what you do, you are amplifying the good stuff and the wobbly stuff.

Alongside all of this, you can choose to pick your Yoda. Yes, Yoda – your guide, mentor, or coach. President Obama had advisors, Michael Jordan had his dad and his coach.

Who do you have? How do you choose them?

Which is another question that we’ll save for next week!
