I have worked with enough of you to know that you think that when you self-sabotage you might as well throw in the towel for the day…maybe the week.

Hold on one minute!

Self sabotage is just an action.  NOT a death sentence. Not a diagnosis. Not a FACT of life you have to deal with.

It’s just something you did.  Just like brushing teeth, cooking dinner, having sex.  They are ACTIONS.

To get an action you must first have a thought…  I’ve mentioned this model a number of times, but here it is again, and prettier!

If you look at that model you see that what gets you into action is emotion, and what causes emotion is your thought.  So, the action of self sabotage all came from a thought!

Circumstance:  You have a body, food exists.

Thought: I’ll never lose weight.

Feeling: Hopeless

Action: Self-Sabotage  (overeat, eat off your plan, binge, watch netflix instead of working…)

Result: You never lose weight.

The result proves the thought true!  So if you keep choosing to think that you’ll never lose weight – then you never will.

What if you thought “Weight loss is possible.”  What is the feeling of that that thought? Go on, try it on!  How does it feel in your body? To me I feel curious. When I feel curious, what action am I likely to take?  I check things out, I try things on, I come at things with openness. What is the result of all of that? I can find ways that weight loss is possible.

How cool is that?!

—>  Notice that I didn’t say “I can lose all the weight I want.”

I didn’t say that because I don’t think you would believe it.  You can change your thoughts to things you don’t believe. Blowing smoke never works.  You have to get your brain on board – your belief on board.

Okay, so next time you feel the urge to self sabotage – I want you to check in and notice what thought got you there.  Here are a few common examples to watch out for:

Stay aware people!  You are in charge – you create your results – you might as well get what you want out of the experience!

Big Love,

Caryn
