Do I Need a Life Coach?

You might be wondering…

“Do I need a life coach?”

“Is coaching right for me?”
(or maybe) “Is now the time for coaching?”
Let’s find out!

Here are 15 surefire ways to know you’re ready, the time is now, and what to do – or not do.

Is coaching right for me?
Try these on for size:

  1. You have a lot of opportunities coming your way you want to be sure you’re taking advantage of AND doing so in a way that really works for you long term. (Smart!)
  2. You have so much going well, things look really great from the outside, but on the inside you are noticing you might be getting bored, you might be worried you’re going to get restless and ruin something that’s working.
  3. If there’s something you’ve been wanting for a long time but you haven’t achieved it yet – a coach can help with that.
  4. You’re sick of trying to solve the same problems.
  5. You are stuck on a thing or in a situation and you don’t know how to get through it – but you do know you can’t stay the same any longer.
OR, you know how to get through it and want to have support in that (because you know it could increase your speed and grace as you get to the other side).

Check in here:

  1. That depends! Do you want one? That, in itself, is a good enough reason.
  2. Do you know you need one but don’t want to pay for it? Consider listening to podcasts of coaches instead or joining a low-cost membership where you get to interact with coaching – not as high-touch, but it can be transformational if you show up with that spirit.
  3. No! Nobody “needs” a life coach, but I believe we’re all better for having had one that was a great fit for us. See #1. If you want one, trust yourself. There’s something there for you.
  4. I don’t really like to “need” anything. It doesn’t feel great for me to “need.” I also watch out for “want” because if I’m wanting something that means I don’t have it!  So in this case, for me, I like to decide and do.
  5. And lastly, just for fun, what would the world be like if we all had 10-30% more self-awareness? …Think about that. That is what’s on offer if everyone gets a coach or a therapist and does some of this work. PRICELESS. So, do you need it? Or does the WORLD need it?  Start with you.

Is now the time for coaching?
Let’s see:

  1. Do you want coaching? Yes, it’s time.
  2. You want a break from coaching? It’s not time. Take a break, be with yourself, be in the change you’ve already created. Trust the process. You’ll know when you’re ready for whatever is next.
  3. You don’t want coaching. It’s not time.
  4. Your friend told you to get a coach… Consider it, but it might not be time.
  5. 3 friends told you to get a coach. It’s time.

All of the above should have shaken loose a pretty clear idea for you about whether you’re ready, what you might coach on, and if now is the time.

Here’s the deal too… Once you start, you’ll find the why. I have coached at least 1,000 people, and the majority of them come in with an idea about what they need or want, and it shifts in the process of doing the work.

Part of getting to where you are going is STARTING to go somewhere – anywhere – and I think getting a coach only amplifies and speeds the process.

So, you’re going to get somewhere just as you are. No question.

You want to get somewhere new and different, but you don’t know exactly where yet? You’ll learn faster by having a coach.

You know exactly what you want? Awesome! You’ll have more speed and grace going with a partner, like a coach, to help you stay aligned and grounded, and have access to a greater perspective than had you done it on your own.

That’s the truth of it.
